goodbye nice to know you lyrics

Hey, I’m pretty sure it’s really about the ego (in a spiritual sense).

You mention that the places you go and the emotions you feel once you meditate or approach enlightenment are superior to seeing magic tricks (Geller) or other cool sights (blossoming nebulae). It also goes further (in itself) than Jacques Cousteau ever dared to dive. The next line is to contrast more deeply (like the music “Ain’t no Mountain High Enough”), and further states that he never realized how much potential he possessed until he stood closer to enlightenment.

He also talks about the point of view in this music. He posits that loss of ego results in gain of vision (seeing things without ego obscuring them). If you are able to see from this “bird’s eye” (as from a vision that is not yours), then you will surely “smile and sing” with joy. This vision takes advantage of his time, which at one point was ego-laden. When it comes to giving yourself wings, it’s doing 2 things. He sets up the part about the bird’s eye in the next stanza of the verse, and he mentions that it sets you free, allowing you to fly.

I know I’m skipping here, but I think explaining it in this environment lets you see how the melody plays out.

To the lines “Bless her… …blizzard to a breeze”

Seeing the wood for the tree means looking beyond something like an instrument (the wood) and understanding where it came from and what it took to make it (the tree). The tree is a living being that is cut to obtain its wood. Being able to recognize that this piece of wood has been a living being is part of this enlightened vision. I don’t know if he’s mentioning that we should be less consumerist or if he’s mentioning that we appreciate what had to happen to make this object happen, but it’s still amazing to say it that way (while quite a few people see the tree for the wood, or the land for the supermarket…etc).

My favorite line in this music is the next line. He mentions that to be able to achieve this enlightenment, or this vision that gives you wings, you have to change a violent and chaotic blizzard (the roaring blizzard that is your ego, your thoughts, your “mind”) into a calm and peaceful breeze.

One of the most mentioned ideas in Buddhism is that the egoless self is present within you right now, and basically the ego covers it up and hides it. in the interlude, Brandon expresses this initiative, asking if his current state could have been his entire story, even if he had only just found out (and perhaps wondering why it took him so long to feel this ).

As for the prechorus and chorus, it should make sense now, but it seems to mention that he finally attained enlightenment (which is marked by the end of the ego). He doesn’t remember ever feeling that (be it joy, ease, freedom), and how he feels like an awakened member. Once your leg has fallen asleep and you let the circulation return to it, surely you know, it feels like a thousand little throbbing sensations. He wonders if his inner self was “asleep” all this time, and in the end he allowed the “circulation” to come back to him. You feel the “pins and needles” of awakening, which is marked by the disappearance of the ego. His only words for his ego? “Goodbye, nice to meet you.”

Better than watching Gellar
Bending silver spoons
Better than witnessing
Newborn nebulas in bloom
She who sees from up high smiles
And surely sings

Perspective pries her once
Weighty eyes and
It gives you wings
I haven’t felt the way
I feel today

In so long its hard
For me to specify
I’m beginning to notice
How much this feels like
A waking limb
Pins and needles
Nice to know you
Goodbye
Nice to know you

Deeper than the deepest
Coustou would ever go
Higher than the heights of what
We often think we know
Blessed she who clearly
Sees the wood for the trees
To obtain a bird’s eye is to
Turn a blizzard to a breeze

I haven’t felt the way
I feel today
In so long its hard
For me to specify
I’m beginning to notice
How much this feels like
A waking limb
Pins and needles
Nice to know you
Goodbye
Nice to know you
Goodbye
Nice to know you
Goodbye
Nice to know you
Goodbye
Nice to know you
To know, you

Could it be that it had
Been there all along

I haven’t felt the way
I feel today
In so long it’s hard
For me to specify
I’m beginning to notice
How much this feels like
A waking limb
Pins and needles
Nice to know you
Goodbye
Nice to know you
Goodbye
Nice to know you
Goodbye
Nice to know you
Goodbye
Nice to know you
To know you
